Why QA teams test Cypriot sign-ups on a real +357 number

Plenty of software companies run their operations from Limassol or Nicosia, and many of them ship products for local users as well as international ones. Emulators and fake numbers will tell you the form submits; they won't tell you what happens when a real Cypriot SMS arrives.

Two things are worth checking on a live number:

• Length and prefix rules. Cypriot mobile numbers are eight digits and begin with 9. There's no trunk 0 to strip, so a validator borrowed from a UK or Greek template may expect the wrong length.
• Greek-alphabet templates. An OTP message written in Greek uses Unicode encoding, which fits far fewer characters into each SMS segment than plain Latin text. A friendly Greek sentence around the code can split into two parts, and some handsets show them out of order. Seeing the delivered message on a +357 number is the quickest way to decide whether to shorten the template.

Typing a +357 number and what language the SMS uses

Pick Cyprus (+357) in the country selector and enter the eight remaining digits, starting with 9. In a single text field, write it as +357 followed by those digits. There is no leading 0 anywhere in a Cypriot number, so nothing needs dropping.

Greek and Turkish are the official languages, and English is everywhere in business and tourism. The SMS language is set by the sending app, typically from your account settings, so the same service might text you in Greek or in English.
